Formed Suction Intake Installed

Early Contractor Involvement Program (ECI)

ECI is used to expedite construction of the West Closure Complex, involving innovative construction sequencing techniques. The West Closure Complex is a massive structure. Getting the pumps into the complex cost effectively and in a timely manner essentially required installing pump components into the building concurrently as construction proceeded.

Part of the Fairbanks Morse design is the Formed Suction Intake that is embedded in concrete approximately 50 feet below the spot where drives will be mounted. This intake assembly (delivered to the site approximately five months ago) will receive a bowl assembly mounted on top (approximately 5 months later). All of this is occurring before the final elevation of the pump station is constructed, allowing the pump to be installed while still accessible via crane.
